Why Myopia Management Matters
Myopia increases the risk of developing serious eye diseases
When myopia progresses rapidly during childhood, it increases the likelihood of developing high myopia later in life. Higher levels of myopia are associated with a greater risk of serious eye diseases, including retinal detachment, glaucoma, myopic macular degeneration, and earlier-onset cataracts. These conditions can lead to lasting vision impairment and are not fully correctable with glasses or contact lenses.
Myopia management is not about eliminating the need for glasses. It is about carefully managing how myopia changes during the years when the eye is still growing, with the goal of reducing long-term risk and supporting lifelong eye health — rather than simply increasing prescriptions year after year.
